No New Posts New Jersey Devils
New Jersey Devils   The New Jersey Devils started in Missouri, the "Show me state", as the Kanas City Scouts. This only lasted till 1978 as the Scouts struggled on and off the ice. The National Hockey League approved the team's move to Denver, where they emerged as the Colorado Rockies. They struggled in their first year, and saw the very colorful and charismatic Don Cherry take over as coach for the 1979-80 season. But the team continued to struggle and Cherry was gone the next year. In 1982 with NHL approval they relocated once again, this time to New Jersey. After a fan vote, the new team was christened the New Jersey Devils.

No New Posts New York Islanders
New York Islanders   The New York Islanders hockey club started at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Their last place finish in 1972 did have some upside though, they received the first overall pick in the 1973 entry draft. The Islanders would draft Ottawa 67's defenseman Denis Potvin, a player who would soon shine as an Islander.

No New Posts Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia Flyers  The Philadelphia Flyers were one of the first group of expansion teams allowed into the NHL in 1967. The Flyers immediately purchased an American Hockey League (AHL) team, the Quebec Aces, giving the team depth and experience that would be helpful in the near future. They played in a brand new facility called the Spectrum. Before the end of their first season, Ed Snider gained majority control of the team along with his partners, Bill Putnam and Joe Scott.

No New Posts Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Penguins   The Pittsburgh Penguins joined the NHL as an expansion team in 1967. Their first year saw them place fifth in the western division and out of the playoffs. The team wasn't a year old before ownership issues came to the front. The Penguins would get the first taste of postseason play in their third year. They finished second in their division and made it to the semi-finals.
